GREEN INITIATIVE
MELIA DUBIA PLANTATION BY ORGANIC WAY:

Presenting my learning & bit experience, which I come during Melia Dubia plantation by Organic way in my Farm – meliadubiagreenfarm@gmail.com

PLANTS ROLE IN GLOBAL WARMING:

Carbon dioxide:

Plants remove carbon dioxide from the air due to cars, manufacturing and other human activities; storing carbon in the trees and the soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. All plants absorb carbon dioxide, but trees are best because they have much more woody biomass. A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime. . Tropical rainforests produce 40% of Earth's oxygen. It's estimated that 1/3 of carbon dioxide pollution comes from "destruction" of the tropical rainforest and it's being destroyed at an alarming rate to build on. Very scary! Plant a tree today.
WHY PLANTING TREE IS REQUIRED

Photosynthesis –

Trees can cool the planet by absorbing the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide during photosynthesis

They can also cool the planet by evaporating water to the atmosphere and increasing cloudiness; a deck of white clouds reflects incoming solar radiation straight back out into space

Trees can also have a warming effect because they are dark and absorb a lot of sunlight, holding heat near ground level
WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE PLANTATION
Soil Test, Irrigation facilityWeather condition & Annual rainfall

Soil test match Melia Dubia requirement not too Hard & PH range from 6.2 to 7.8 on an average

In its natural habitat the absolute maximum shade temperature varies from 37.5–47.5 C and the absolute minimum from 0–15 C. It does well in moist regions, with a mean annual rainfall exceeding 1000 mm. The mean relative humidity in July varies from 70–90% and in January from 50–80 %. It is commonly found in the hills at elevations ranging from 600 – 1800m.

WHY MELIA DUBIA BEING SELECTED:

One among the fast Growing Tree in the World

Melia Dubia is fast growing tree and it can be cultivated in all types of soil and requiring a low supply of water. Melia dubia has the unique feature of growing to 40 feet within 2 years from planting
MULTI SPECIES PLANTATION:
Increase productivity

In some situations there may be advantages in establishing a mixture of species rather than
Monoculture. The mixture may be less susceptible to pests or diseases because of
Microclimate changes. Increased productivity may also arise from improved nutrition
resulting from the use of nitrogen fixing trees, or the mixture may be more financially
secure because early maturing species can be harvested comparatively quickly and so
provide a quicker financial return.

Although this approach is much more complicated to
establish and manage, evidence suggests that properly constructed mixtures can have
significant advantages.

Many functional benefits, to biodiversity conservation, to watershed protection, are only
achieved when larger areas of landscape are reforested
This means higher biodiversity
might be achieved via complex mixtures across the whole landscape or, alternatively, by a
mosaic of different mono cultures. Most biodiversity is probably best conserved by
reforestation that involves a high number of plant species.
The farm is now with multi species like Teak, Mango and coconut trees.
SELECTION OF SAPLINGS:

Sapling

Selection of sapling is more important, I selected 6 months old saplings which from seeding & not from tissue culture or cloning.

SELECTION OF LAND
No Water logging
Melia Dubia does not like water logging as she fails growing in water .Not to be too hard soil as well

SELECTION OF PIT SIZE & ESCAPEMENT:
How she is planted in Meliagreenfarm
The land of 5 acres cleaned well using machines (plough)
Pit size is 3 X 3 X 3 Feet took with the help of JCB machine with escapement 10 feet each.
After 30 to 35 days I just closed all my Pits manually.
Again after 2 weeks I opened a small pit at the same place (50 X 50 X 50 cm).Added Organic fertilizers along with Cow & Goat manure mixed together in the pit.Planted the Melia Dubia Plant which is in the cover, without damaging the contend soil.
Irrigation on the same day
Same exercise I fallowed for all my 2000 plants

SELECTION OF ORGANIC FERTILIZER:
Organic Farming
Vesicular Carbuncular Mycorrhiza (VAM): a potential biofertilizer
Azospirillum is a nitrogen fixing biofertilizer
Pseudomonas Florescence bacteria
Trichoderma Viride is the potential antagonistic fungus which prevents the crops from diseases viz. Root rots, wilts, brown rot, damping off, charcoal rot and other soil born diseases in crops
Neem cake has an adequate quantity of NPK in organic form for plant growth
Cow & Goat manure for good NPK

SELECTION OF IRRIGATION FELICITY:
Flood Irrigation

Flood irrigation is fallowed 4 to 5 days gap at the initial day of plantation & slowly it is increased now to weekly once as the plant grown well in root system

SELECTION OF BOUNDARY PLANTATION
casuarina junghuhniana
The boundary is planted well with casuarinas with close distance of 3 feet each to protect plantation from wind & animals

SELECTION OF TEAM FOR FEEDING PLANTS
Farm Team members
The team members are all tree lovers. Hard working & able be watch keen on the development & growth of the Plant

INTER CROP CULTIVATION WITH MELIA DUBIA
Pigeon Pea ( Red gram)
Intercropping is done with pigeon pea ( Red Gram) for nitrogen fixing & also as part of revenue generation for the survival of the Team & Plants as well.
PLANTS & TEAM SURVIVAL:
Trees
Intercropping is planned for the next 3 years for the survival of the team & plants
pigeon pea ( Red Gram)
Black gram.
Pepper
Coleus plants & Ground nuts
